The draw has taken place and the winner has been chosen!
We are delighted to announce that the lucky winner is;
Paul Hemming, from Hertfordshire!
We thought it would be great for us to share with you his reaction and some information about him, for which he has kindly given his permission.
Upon receiving the news of his win by email, Paul said:
“Thank you for your email. I could hardly believe what I read. If it’s true, and please excuse my skepticism, I am totally happy and at the same time sorry that you didn’t meet your target.”
“I bought my ticket initially as I found the cause you are supporting appealed to me. I must say, to see that I have been chosen as the winner, I am enormously surprised and truly grateful.”
And the following day he wrote:
“You can probably imagine our delight at hearing from you yesterday. We are still smiling like Cheshire cats as the sum involved will improve our lives immensely.
I have now had a few hours for your news to sink in. I thought I would appraise you of my situation and let you know a bit about me.
I am a UK citizen, 69 years of age. In 2015 I had a poor medical diagnosis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and wonky hip and knee joints.
Back then I owned a small sailing boat and I made a considered decision to spend as much of my remaining life, as possible, sailing.
I have sailed for many years and it’s my happy place. In November 2015 I took on the challenge of sailing to the Mediterranean via the French canals.
It was an interesting trip to say the least. I am currently aboard my boat in Greece with my partner, Tanya and our dog Mir, not far from Athens.
My health has improved immeasurably thanks to pursuing a healthy lifestyle.
As a result of some poor pension choices, over the years, my main income is my UK state pension but with careful management and relatively simple living we enjoy a healthy adventurous lifestyle that many people can merely dream about. I feel truly blessed.”

The competition is now closed and a huge thank you to everyone for taking part.
We’re sorry that we didn’t manage to sell enough tickets to give away the chateau, but we made a total of £108,940! All the profits from this competition are going to good causes, and we’re sure they will be grateful for the amazing sum we’ve raised to further their good works.
The winning cash prize is £10,890, plus a donation of over £5,000 to the charity of Paul’s choosing.
If you’d like to find out more about the cause we are donating the funds to, The Eco Village Development Company who are making affordable housing a reality, then please sign up to their newsletter from the website at https://ecovillagedev.com/
Best wishes & thank you for taking part!

I have some questions...
No problem, here are some answers to some of the questions we are commonly asked:
There is a limit of 500,000 tickets.
After all costs and charitable donations have been taken out, the remaining funds will go to the Eco Village Development Company CIC, which is a Community Interest Company that, by law, must use its funds for community benefit. It is set up with the aim of creating affordable, sustainable housing for all. For further details go to: www.ecovillagedev.com
Ruth’s passion and work for the past 8 years in France has been in planning affordable ecological housing and permaculture living environments. Having now moved back to the UK to be nearer her children and run her business in Cornwall, she sought the best way to continue this work.
The idea of raising funds via this competition to win her chateau seemed like the perfect solution.
It will not only benefit homeless people directly, helping to provide more emergency beds and long term support for the most vulnerable, it will also help tackle two of the biggest problems we face in society today – lack of affordable housing and the destruction of the environment.
These funds will springboard the creation of exciting new possibilities for those who are most in need in society and for living in harmony with the natural world.
This project was started by Ruth and it is a heartfelt cause to raise funds to help homeless people and to create affordable housing. Ruth is a lifelong believer and practitioner of using her privilege, skills and experience to benefit those who are in need. As Bishop Michael Curry declared at Harry and Meghan’s wedding: “There’s power in love. Don’t underestimate it. Don’t even over-sentimentalise. There is power, power in love.”
The odds of winning the national lottery are approximately 1 in 14 million. If you answer the competition questions right, you will have a 1 in 500,000 chance to win (that’s if everyone else gets the question correct too!). So, assuming that a significant proportion of people will not get the questions right, the odds are much better than winning the national lottery, as only correct answers get entered into the draw.
A charity of the winner’s choosing will receive 5% of the net ticket income.
This must be a bone fide registered not-for-profit organisation.
After all costs and charitable donations have been taken out, the remaining funds will go to The Eco Village Development Company CIC. This is a community interest company. Its aim is to create affordable, sustainable housing for all. It is ‘asset-locked’ and is obliged by law to utilise all funds received for the benefit of the community.
